Our puppy selection process is based on a first-paid, first-pick basis. This insures we are prioritizing placement with only those serious with investing in one of our Golden Retrievers. Once you have secured your spot in the selection lineup through paying your retainer fee, you will be placed in the picking order accordingly. You can indicate your preference for a male or female puppy. Puppy selection begins at six weeks of age, as puppies undergo significant personality development between newborn to six weeks. This ensures families can choose a puppy whose temperament matches their household.

Dew claws are small, extra toes located on the inside of a dog’s front (and sometimes back) legs. While they serve little purpose in domesticated dogs, they can pose a risk of injury by getting caught or torn. For dogs who work in the field or hunt, are often on adventures or maintain a more active lifestyle, dew claws are particularly prone to injury, which can be painful and require costly surgical removal later in life. Removing them early prevents these issues and helps keep working dogs safe. Additionally, dew claws can sometimes scratch owners, children, or furniture, making their removal a common choice for families who want to avoid potential injuries.

Bringing a new puppy home requires preparation! Here’s what you’ll need:

• A properly fitted collar and leash

• High-quality puppy food and feeding station

• Absorbent disposable pads for accidents

• A cozy crate or bed

• Chew toys and enrichment items

• A scheduled veterinary appointment for a checkup and vaccinations

Puppies experience a big transition when leaving their littermates, so patience and consistency are key. Provide a safe and quiet space, maintain a routine, and use positive reinforcement when introducing them to their new environment. Comfort items such as a blanket with their mother’s scent can also help ease the transition.

New puppies require a series of vet visits for vaccinations and wellness checks. Typically, they will need vaccines at 6-8 weeks, 10-12 weeks, and 14-16 weeks, along with deworming treatments and flea/tick prevention. Be sure to follow up with your veterinarian to establish a long-term health plan. Rangeland Golden Retrievers will receive their first set of vaccinations before leaving our care. This insures owners are on the right track to a healthy, happy new Golden.

• Sleep Schedules: Puppies need a lot of sleep! Expect them to sleep 18-20 hours a day in the early weeks.

• Food Schedules: Puppies should eat three to four small meals per day until about six months old, then transition to two meals per day.

• Bathroom Breaks: Puppies need to go outside frequently, especially after eating, drinking, playing, or waking up from naps. A good rule of thumb is that they can hold their bladder for about one hour per month of age.
